9Big Ben and the Palace of Westminster

Few sights are as instantly recognizable as Big Ben rising above the River Thames. Although many people use the name to describe the tower itself, it technically refers to the great bell inside. The tower, officially known as the Elizabeth Tower, stands beside the Palace of Westminster, home to the British Parliament.

This area captures the classic image of London. The Gothic architecture, the river views, and the constant movement of locals and visitors make it a perfect first stop. Walking across Westminster Bridge offers one of the city’s most memorable panoramas, especially in the early morning when the light reflects on the Thames.

Spend a little time simply observing the atmosphere. Red double-decker buses pass by, boats move along the river, and the clock tower anchors one of the most iconic cityscapes in Europe.
