8Westminster Abbey

Just a short walk away stands Westminster Abbey, one of Britain’s most important religious and historical landmarks. For nearly a thousand years, coronations of British monarchs have taken place here. It has also hosted royal weddings, funerals, and national ceremonies.

Inside, the abbey feels both grand and intimate. Medieval stonework, stained glass, vaulted ceilings, and centuries of memorials create a space filled with history. Many famous figures are buried or commemorated here, including writers, scientists, and political leaders.

Even visitors who are not especially interested in royal history often find Westminster Abbey moving because it reflects so many layers of the nation’s story. The surrounding square is also lovely for photographs, particularly when the light catches the pale stone façade.
