Évora is the region’s best-known historic city, but smaller destinations such as Monsaraz, Marvão, and Vila Viçosa offer an even quieter experience. The coast is particularly appealing for travelers who want dramatic beaches without the atmosphere of a packed resort.
Alentejo moves at a slower pace, making it ideal for long lunches, scenic drives, wine tasting, and wandering through ancient streets without constantly checking over your shoulder for the next tour group.
