8La Tomatina – Buñol, Valencia

La Tomatina, held annually in the town of Buñol in Valencia, is probably Spain’s most famous food fight. On the last Wednesday of August, thousands of participants gather to throw overripe tomatoes at each other, turning the streets into a surreal, red-splattered battlefield.

The festival began in 1945 as a spontaneous food fight during a local parade and has since grown into a global event. Safety measures, strict rules, and organized cleanup ensure the chaos remains fun and controlled. Participants usually wear goggles and old clothes, but the real joy comes from being part of this messy, collective celebration.

Why go? If you want a once-in-a-lifetime, adrenaline-filled experience that’s messy, exhilarating, and utterly unique.
