Deep in a forested valley near Sarlat stands Château de Commarque, a dramatic medieval complex emerging from the rock itself. Built into a limestone cliff, the site once served as a fortified village with a tower, chapel, and troglodyte dwellings carved into the stone.

Abandoned for centuries, it remained hidden beneath vegetation until rediscovered and restored.
