7Playa del Silencio, Asturias

The name says almost everything. Playa del Silencio, near Cudillero, is surrounded by dramatic cliffs that curve around the coastline like a giant natural amphitheatre.

Instead of the broad sandy expanse associated with many Spanish beaches, visitors find a more rugged landscape of rocks, pebbles and deep green vegetation. The cliffs provide shelter and create a spectacular setting for photographs.

It is particularly appealing for travellers who prefer dramatic scenery over beach clubs and rows of sun loungers.
