12Day 2: Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast

On Day 2, start by visiting the ancient ruins of Pompeii, one of the world’s most fascinating archaeological sites. Just a 30-minute drive from Naples, Pompeii offers a glimpse into Roman life before Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD, burying the city in ash. Take a guided tour to explore the well-preserved streets, homes, temples, and frescoes.

Afterward, drive towards the Amalfi Coast, one of the most scenic drives in the world. Begin with a stop in Sorrento, a charming coastal town known for its cliffside views, lemon groves, and laid-back atmosphere. Enjoy lunch here, perhaps sampling the town’s famous limoncello.

In the late afternoon, continue along the winding roads of the Amalfi Coast to Positano, arguably the most iconic and photogenic town in Southern Italy. Positano’s colorful houses, clinging to the cliffs, seem to cascade down to the turquoise sea. Stroll through the narrow streets, visit the local shops, or relax on the beach.
