Venice is constantly threatened by acqua alta, or high water, caused by high tides, storm surges, and rising sea levels.

To combat this, the city has implemented the MOSE project (Modulo Sperimentale Elettromeccanico), a series of movable barriers designed to protect Venice from flooding. While the project has faced delays and controversies, it represents a critical effort to preserve the city’s future.
