Afghanistan consistently ranks as one of the most dangerous places for women. Since the Taliban’s return to power in 2021, women’s rights have regressed dramatically. Girls are often banned from attending school past the sixth grade, and women are prohibited from working in most professions.
Basic freedoms like leaving home without a male guardian are severely restricted. Gender-based violence, forced marriages, and honor killings remain common, while access to healthcare for women is extremely limited.
