3Day 3: The Historic Center

Rome’s historic center is a lively maze of squares, fountains, and narrow streets. Today is all about wandering through this beautiful district.

Start your morning at the iconic Trevi Fountain, one of the most famous fountains in the world. Tradition says that tossing a coin over your shoulder into the fountain ensures your return to Rome.

Next, walk toward the ancient Pantheon, one of the best-preserved monuments from Roman antiquity. Originally built as a temple to all the gods, the building is famous for its massive dome and central oculus, which allows sunlight to illuminate the interior.

Continue to the elegant Piazza Navona, a lively square built on the remains of an ancient Roman stadium. Its centerpiece is Bernini’s dramatic Fountain of the Four Rivers.

Later in the afternoon, climb the famous Spanish Steps, which connect the Piazza di Spagna with the Trinità dei Monti church above. From the top, you can enjoy beautiful views across the surrounding rooftops.
