5Rocamadour – The Cliffside Wonder

Tucked into the limestone cliffs of the Lot Valley, Rocamadour is one of the most stunning medieval villages in France. This UNESCO-listed village seems to defy gravity as it clings to a sheer rock face, overlooking the Alzou River below. Its historical significance dates back to the Middle Ages, when it was a major stop along the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route.
Wander through its steep, winding streets, lined with stone houses and centuries-old chapels. The highlight of any visit is the Sanctuary of Rocamadour, a collection of religious buildings including the Chapel of Notre Dame, which houses the famed Black Madonna statue, said to have miraculous powers. The village is also home to the Château de Rocamadour, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the valley.
