2World’s Tallest Dome

Michelangelo’s dome at St. Peter’s Basilica held the title of the world’s tallest dome for centuries until the construction of the Minnesota State Capitol Building in the United States in 1905.

The dome of St. Peter’s Basilica stands at an impressive height of 136 meters (446 feet) from the floor to the top of the cross. Even with the passing of time and the rise of modern structures, Michelangelo’s architectural masterpiece continues to be a symbol of both spiritual and engineering excellence.
