3Volto (Larva)

The Volto, also known as the Larva, is a plain white mask that covers the entire face. Its simplicity makes it versatile, allowing wearers to dress extravagantly while maintaining a neutral, emotionless expression.

Hidden Meaning: The Volto represents mystery and universality. By erasing individual features, it gave Venetians the freedom to step outside their social role and act anonymously, whether attending a ball, gambling, or enjoying forbidden amusements. Historically, the Larva could be worn with a cloak and tricorn hat, offering complete anonymity for both men and women. Today, the Volto is one of the most recognizable symbols of the Venice Carnival, embodying both elegance and secrecy.
