4Michelle and Her Husband Couldn’t Let Sherman Go
Michelle Pratt already had experience as a foster volunteer with Best Friends Animal Society when Sherman arrived in her life.
The scruffy dog had an old leg injury that made getting around difficult. Michelle and her husband initially agreed to foster him while he waited for a permanent home.
But the temporary arrangement did not last.
Sherman became especially attached to Michelle’s husband, and the feeling was mutual. The couple eventually decided that they could not let him go and adopted him themselves.
Because of his mobility problems, they adapted their home for him. They invested in a dog stroller for situations when walking became difficult and added a special mat system around the house to make moving across the floors easier.
What makes the story particularly charming is that there was no dramatic moment when the couple decided to become heroes. They simply realized that Sherman belonged with them—and then changed their lives to accommodate him.
