7Rachel and Caleb Drove Kiwi Across the Country
Kiwi was a deaf senior dog with skin allergies and a benign mass on her ear when she arrived at the Best Friends Lifesaving Center in Los Angeles.
Rachel and Caleb Clement initially agreed to foster her. But it did not take long for their plans to change.
After taking Kiwi home, the couple quickly became attached to her. Rachel even made little covers for Kiwi’s legs using the sleeves of old sweaters while helping her recover.
The family eventually decided that Kiwi was staying.
Then came another major commitment: the Clements moved from Los Angeles to Nashville, Tennessee. Kiwi made the long cross-country journey with them and ultimately became part of their family life on a farm.
She enjoyed spending time outdoors around goats and pigs but also loved relaxing indoors with her family.
The couple were already caring for five children with special needs, yet they opened their home to a senior dog who also required extra attention. For them, Kiwi’s age and medical challenges were reasons to give her more care—not reasons to turn her away.
