In Davao City in the Philippines, Marc Joseph Colando came up with an extraordinary solution for his lovebird, Nitya, after she survived a serious cat attack.
The injury left Nitya unable to stand, walk or land normally, meaning that one of the most natural experiences for a bird—flying—was no longer something she could enjoy in the same way. Instead of simply accepting that she had lost that part of her life, Marc tried to find another way.
He designed a small transparent cabin that could be attached beneath a drone. Nitya could sit inside the clear enclosure while the drone lifted her into the air, giving her the sensation of being above the ground again.
According to reports, Marc carefully tested the setup and watched Nitya’s reactions to make sure she remained comfortable. Videos of the little lovebird enjoying her aerial trips attracted widespread attention online. For Marc, the elaborate invention was simply a way of giving his pet something she had lost.
