Slovenia is home to one of Europe’s most impressive underground landscapes: the Škocjan Caves. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the system is famous for its enormous underground canyon created by the Reka River.
The scale is what makes this place extraordinary. Visitors walk along paths and bridges above the underground river while towering rock walls rise around them.
Unlike caves known primarily for colorful lighting or delicate formations, Škocjan has a raw and dramatic character. Its immense chambers and roaring river create the feeling of entering another world.
