9Not Validating Train Tickets

In Italy, many regional and intercity train tickets (especially paper ones) must be validated before boarding. This small step—often overlooked—can result in hefty fines even if your ticket is paid for.

Avoid it: Look for the small green or yellow machines near the platforms and stamp your ticket before boarding. For high-speed trains with assigned seats, validation is not usually required.
