9Bernini’s Baroque Masterpiece

Adorning the square are three magnificent fountains, with the centerpiece being the Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of the Four Rivers) designed by the eminent sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini.

Each figure in the fountain represents a river from a different continent—Nile, Ganges, Danube, and Rio de la Plata—symbolizing the four corners of the world as known during the Baroque era.
