The Waitomo Glowworm Caves are unlike almost any other cave system on Earth. Located on New Zealand’s North Island, they are famous for thousands of tiny glowworms that illuminate the darkness like a natural starry sky.
Visitors travel through the caves by boat, floating quietly beneath the glowing ceiling. The combination of darkness, underground waterways and blue-green points of light creates an unforgettable atmosphere.
The glowworms are the main attraction, but the cave system itself is also fascinating, with limestone formations and enormous chambers shaped over millions of years.
