Few sights symbolize London more than Big Ben, the majestic clock tower that rises over the Palace of Westminster. Officially renamed the Elizabeth Tower in 2012 to honor Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee, Big Ben remains one of the most recognized icons in the world.
The tower’s intricate Gothic Revival architecture and booming chimes create an unmistakable presence along the River Thames. Adjacent to it, the Houses of Parliament represent centuries of political history. Strolling across Westminster Bridge provides one of the best vantage points for photos, especially at sunset when the tower glows golden against the evening sky.
