1Matera

Matera is a unique city in Southern Italy that deserves more tourist attention than it gets. This gorgeous destination is accessible from the Bari Airport and is worth exploring for 2–3 days while on an Italian adventure.

The city has an area known as Sassi de Matera which is a historic area with cave dwellings and a museum called the Casa Grotta di Vico Solitario. Matera is about 4.5 hours from Rome, so it’s a great addition to any Italian road trip or train travel itinerary.
