Abduction of a Sabine Woman is a massive and intricate marble sculpture by Giambologna, a Flemish artist and builder (Johannes of Boulogne).

In his lifetime, Giambologna acquired enormous recognition, and this work is usually regarded as his masterpiece. It has been at Florence’s Loggia dei Lanzi since August 1582. The title was not assigned until after the work was done. Giambologna was notorious for being indecisive about the subject matter of his work, and in this case desired to create a big, massive sculpture that would showcase his talent.
