While several of Michelangelo’s sculptures are on display in churches and museums all across his homeland of Florence, Italy, he is most known for one sculpture in particular

The 17-foot-tall statue of David, referred to simply as David, is awe-inspiring. For Florence, which was under threat from Rome’s powerful Medici family, the David monument is also meant to symbolize liberty. An imposing statue stood in front of the city’s administrative offices, known as the Palazzo Vecchio, in 1504.
