5Petra, Jordan

This Nabataean caravan-city is situated between the Dead Sea and Red Sea, and served as an important crossroads between Egypt, Arabia, and Syria-Phoenicia.

It’s still half-built, half-carved into the rock, and is beautifully surrounded by mountains that feature gorges and passages. Famed as one of the world’s most famous archaeological sites, this place should definitely be visited at least once in a lifetime.
