A time for frivolousness and fun before the beginning of the Lenten season, Italy’s Carnevale rivals the most boisterous celebrations in Rio de Janeiro.

It begins immediately after the Epiphany and ends on Mercoledì delle Ceneri, Ash Wednesday.
