2Islas Cíes, Galicia

Far from the Mediterranean glamour, the Cíes Islands off the coast of Galicia in northwestern Spain are an entirely different experience. Part of the Atlantic Islands National Park, the archipelago is home to some of Europe’s most pristine beaches. In fact, Playa de Rodas has been called the “world’s best beach” thanks to its dazzling white sand and emerald waters.

Camping is the only way to stay overnight, as hotels are banned to protect the fragile ecosystem. By day, visitors hike scenic trails, kayak through turquoise lagoons, and observe the colonies of seabirds that inhabit the islands.

Why visit? The Islas Cíes are perfect for eco-adventurers who want a wild, unplugged island escape.
