Mount Athos is one of the most important religious centers of the Orthodox Church.
It is located in Central Macedonia, northernGreece and has twenty Orthodox monasteries (Greek, Russian, Serbian, Georgian, Bulgarian and Romanian) that make up an autonomous territory under Greek sovereignty. It was declared, as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for its cultural and natural wealth, in 1988.
