7Arg-é Bam – Iran (circa 500 BC)

This massive adobe castle, located in southeastern Iran, was once the largest mud-brick structure in the world.

The origins of Arg-é Bam stretch back to the Achaemenid Empire, around the 6th century BC. It served as a key military and trading hub along the Silk Road. Though severely damaged by an earthquake in 2003, restoration efforts continue to preserve its historical significance.
