9Gaudí Spent the Last Years of His Life Working Almost Exclusively on It
Gaudí became increasingly devoted to the Sagrada Família as the years passed. In 1914, he stopped working on other projects so he could concentrate entirely on the basilica.
He knew the enormous building would not be completed during his lifetime. Rather than trying to finish everything himself, he developed an architectural concept that future generations could continue.
Gaudí died in 1926, after being struck by a tram in Barcelona. At that point, only a fraction of his enormous vision had been realized.
