12026 Marked a Major Milestone for the Central Tower
The Sagrada Família entered a new chapter in 2026.
On February 20, the upper arm of the cross was placed on the Tower of Jesus Christ, completing the exterior of the basilica’s tallest central tower. The tower reaches approximately 172.5 metres, making it the highest point of the temple.
The milestone was followed by a major ceremony on June 10, 2026, when Pope Leo XIV presided over a solemn Mass marking the centenary of Gaudí’s death and blessed the Tower of Jesus Christ. The tower was subsequently illuminated for the first time.
However, the story is not completely finished. The Glory façade and other elements of the basilica remain under construction, meaning that the Sagrada Família continues to be a living architectural project rather than simply a monument frozen in history.
