7Kalambaka

Located on the foothills of Meteora pinnacles, famous rock formations are known for being home to one of the largest and most significant monasteries in Greece; Kalambaka is one of the most beautiful small towns to visit in the country.

These monasteries date back to the 14th century and were used to seek spiritual isolation and home to people who suffered religious persecution. Vacationers can still visit all six of them and learn a bit of their history when they visit Kalambaka. Apart from getting an insight into the fascinating history of these monasteries, Kalambaka features cobbled streets, which are lined with magnificent churches and chapels.
