The Rosetta Stone dates back to 196 BCE during the Ptolemaic dynasty, a period characterized by the rule of the Ptolemaic kings who were descendants of one of Alexander the Great’s generals, Ptolemy I Soter.

It was during this time that the decree inscribed on the stone was issued, lauding the generosity and benefactions of King Ptolemy V.
