10David Changed His Plans to Give Rex a Home
Rex was only two years old when he arrived at a shelter with a severely injured leg that he could not put weight on.
Veterinarians determined that the leg would need to be amputated. While Rex waited for surgery and recovery, his story appeared on social media.
David Reilly happened to see Rex on Instagram.
He was immediately drawn to the dog and began planning to drive to Lancaster to meet him. Then, unexpectedly, a fire in David’s condominium building disrupted those plans.
Later, when he checked the shelter’s social media, he discovered that Rex had been moved to the Best Friends Pet Adoption Center. David initially feared that someone else had adopted him.
Instead of giving up, he contacted Best Friends and learned that Rex still needed a foster home while recovering from his amputation.
David volunteered.
He admitted that the situation was intimidating because Rex would be his first dog, but he had already fallen for him. The injured leg was not going to change his mind.
Rex eventually adapted beautifully to life on three legs and found the permanent home David had hoped to give him from the beginning
