Pontikonisi, known as Mouse Island located is an islet located off the east coast of the island just south of the airport. The island is home to the Byzantine chapel Pantokrator and got its name because from above the island looks like the shape of a mouse.
Legend has it that Odysseus’s boat Pontikonisi capsized here off Corfu and the God Podeidon turned the boat into the island giving it its name. The island is accessed by boat from a nearby islet linked to the main island by a small causeway. This second islet is worth a visit in itself with the pretty white Panagia Vlacherna chapel and monastery, a building that features in many images of Corfu.
