3Fontana delle Tartarughe (Turtle Fountain)

Nestled in the picturesque Piazza Mattei, this hidden gem captures a more intimate and charming essence. Created by Giacomo della Porta and Taddeo Landini in the 16th century, the fountain features young men assisting tortoises to climb the basin’s sides, evoking a sense of playfulness and grace.

The delicate sculptural work and the graceful movement of the figures create a serene and captivating scene. The juxtaposition of the turtles against the backdrop of the elegant Renaissance architecture of the square adds to its irresistible appeal.
