2Your Travel Insurance Does Not Cover Current Risks

Many travellers purchase travel insurance without examining the details of their policies. Unfortunately, discovering that certain disruptions are excluded can happen at the worst possible moment.

Depending on the policy, coverage may be limited for situations involving known events, civil unrest, extreme weather, pre-existing circumstances or government travel warnings.

If your destination is already experiencing significant disruption, do not automatically assume that cancelling your holiday will qualify for reimbursement.

Read the policy carefully and contact your insurance provider before departure. Ask specifically about cancellations, medical emergencies, evacuation expenses and travel interruptions.

A relatively small amount of preparation can prevent substantial financial losses.
