Somalia continues to struggle with armed conflict involving the government and the militant organization al-Shabaab.
The group controls certain rural areas and regularly carries out attacks in cities, including the capital Mogadishu. Government forces, often supported by international partners, conduct military operations aimed at weakening the group’s influence.
