8The Egyptian Mummies

The British Museum’s collection of Egyptian mummies is legendary. These preserved bodies, along with their elaborately decorated sarcophagi, offer a haunting glimpse into ancient Egyptian beliefs about life, death, and the afterlife.

Among the highlights is the mummy of Katebet, a Chantress of Amun from Thebes, wrapped in linen and adorned with protective amulets. The delicate artistry of the funerary masks and the vivid colors that have survived millennia make these displays both eerie and fascinating.
