10Aurora Borealis In The Arctic & Antarctic

The northern and southern lights, the aurora, and polar lights, all of which can be seen in the high-latitude regions of the Arctic and Antarctic. A display of colored lights in the sky is caused by disturbances in the magnetosphere and by the solar wind.

It has been linked to the lights since the 4th century BC, including Norse mythology and Benjamin Franklin’s native American mythologies. It was a Norwegian scientist named Kristian Birkeland who sparked our understanding of geomagnetism and the polar aurora.
