7Alaska Highway – British Columbia to Alaska

Originally built as a military supply route during World War II, the Alaska Highway (or Alcan Highway) stretches over 1,400 miles from Dawson Creek, British Columbia, to Delta Junction, Alaska.

Though it’s a multi-national route, the segment within Alaska is one of the loneliest drives in America.

Motorists will pass through wilderness with mountain views, endless forests, and small Alaskan towns. Wildlife sightings are frequent, but towns and gas stations are sparse, so plan accordingly.
