7Palais Garnier Opera House

With its gilded facade ornamentation, vibrant ceiling paintings, and over-the-top chandeliers (including the crystal and bronze auditorium fixture memorialized in The Phantom of the Opera), the Palais Garnier epitomizes old-world opulence.

Built from 1861-1875 for the Paris Opera, it is perhaps the most well-known example of Second Empire architecture.
