8Castillo de Loarre (Huesca)

Nestled in the foothills of the Pyrenees, Castillo de Loarre is considered one of the finest Romanesque castles in Europe.

Built in the 11th century to defend against Muslim incursions, its towers and chapel remain remarkably intact. Surrounded by sweeping views of Aragon’s plains, the fortress once guarded the frontier of Christendom. The castle’s cinematic appeal has also earned it roles in films like Kingdom of Heaven. Walking through its ancient walls feels like stepping back into the Middle Ages.
