3Dar al-Hajar, Yemen

While Yemen suffers greatly from the armed conflict, it is still home to natural and man-made beauty, like the Dar al-Hajar palace. Perched precariously atop a tall natural rock spire, Dar al-Hajar was built by an Islamic spiritual leader in the 1930s.

The main structure is five storeys tall, but various outbuildings cling to lower reaches of the rockface.
