4Day 7: Siena – Medieval Elegance

Just over an hour from Florence lies Siena, one of Italy’s most atmospheric medieval cities. Unlike Florence’s Renaissance grandeur, Siena retains a Gothic elegance that transports visitors back in time.

The heart of the city is Piazza del Campo, a shell-shaped square widely considered one of Europe’s most beautiful public spaces. Twice each summer it hosts the famous Palio horse race.

Art lovers should visit the magnificent Siena Cathedral, whose black-and-white marble façade and richly decorated interior rival any church in Italy.

Spend the afternoon wandering Siena’s narrow streets, where small galleries and artisan shops reveal the city’s creative spirit.
