Preheat your oven to 350°F. For added moisture during baking, place a small dish of water on the lower rack of the oven. Brush the top of the dough with beaten egg for a shiny finish, and optionally score a small cross on the top with a sharp knife for a traditional look.
Bake the panettone for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. If the top browns too quickly, cover it loosely with aluminum foil. Once baked, let the panettone cool in the mold for about ten minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
